It's a Purple Pony!

I need a little sign that says "Make Hay While the Sun Shines" because then it would remind me to do more productive things when our wacky weather is behaving nicely! For instance, I should have taken a photo of this ACEO outdoors on Saturday when I had the chance.

I drew it a few weeks ago at an artist trading card get together graciously hosted by Studio Todorovic at Art Central. Originally it was going to be one horse, but I didn't have an eraser, so I thought I would just go ahead and make it two horses in tandem. I used Copic markers for whole card. This line of markers is just wonderful to use, unlike Prismacolors. The nibs are replaceable and they have no odour.

The original card is for sale on Etsy - I do believe it's the first new thing I have listed in a long time!

Custom Pet Portrait

I Just finished this custom ACEO for my friend Christy DeKoning of her cat, Joe. She wanted him to be a fat cat! I hope she isn't disappointed with my rendition, Al Capone style!

Christy also did a custom portrait for me at Christmas.

Original new watercolor painting – Large Still Life

I’ve just added two new ACEO’s to my shop.

I created this first one as a part of a challenge in my watercolor group.  “Lemon-Lime”  was painted with just 3 pigments – a red, a blue and a yellow. This was really fun. I often rely on the fantastic pigments produced by my favorite companies, but it was a great exercise to create with a limited palette and mix my own colors.

This is a scan of the ACEO before I trimmed it. You can see the three pigments I used on the side and under it are some of the mixes I created and used.

While I had my palette prepared with these three colors, I decided to try painting a landscape I had sketched out. It is the view of Mt. Hood, Oregon, that we get when we have a clear day! I’m really pleased with what I could do, again, with just 3 pigments!

I'm on day 26 of my Painting A Day Challenge for the Month of February. It has been going so well. I haven't missed a day yet! Although I did come close one day, I remembered at 11:56 pm that I had not done a painting. I jumped out of bed and went right into my studio and whipped up this little floral painting. I looked at the clock and it read 11:59 pm. Phew! One minute to spare! Out of all the paintings I have created this month, this one is a keeper for my private collection.

Mixed Media Madness

Here is a fun piece I did as a precursor to a large commission I've been wracking my brain over for 6 months. I finally got the "recipe" the way I want it. I was really going for the ancient Raku Chinese theme....

This ATC was given in a monthly swap for the eBay Aceo group for December 09.

Getting your artwork out there

I have been selling on Etsy for some time now, and have just started to sell my work and get it out there for the world to see. How? I have a fan page on Facebook and Twitter. I am starting to seek out Gallery's locally and make sure that even my  home page on facebook is constantly showing my work. My aceo's and my other Photography. So far it has helped me to get hundreds of hits on my Etsy. I have to admit it was a lot of work at first and keeping  it going is time consuming. But the out come is sales, sales and more  inquiring about my work.

Alberta Spirit ACEO Prints

Happy New Year everyone! It seems like ages since I posted here, but I have added a new ACEO print to my herd of horses (as well as renewed ones that expired...things sure lapse over the holidays!)

The original Alberta Spirit is about 11x14", but it's faithfully reproduced here in miniature on glossy photo paper. I use a top of the line HP printer with HP inks for all my ACEO prints.

Glittering Butterfly

This original aceo in on stretched canvas. It is a mixture of acrylic paint, alcohol inks, and glitter then embellished with a butterfly brooch. It creates the garden from the butterfly's viewpoint. This aceo is for sale in my Etsy shop.

Simple Joys : ACEO Limited Edition Still Lifes

In many of my still life paintings I use a wine glass as the main character to personify the human spirit. These paintings are about the simple joys of life, leisure, and contemplation.

Featured Seller: artwatercolor

I came across this beautiful original watercolor painting titled "Color Composition" yesterday and fell in love with it. It is by EtsyACEO member artwatercolor.

I asked Anca to tell me a little bit about how she did it. "I was on a holiday when I painted this watercolor and was relaxing sketching in the garden. There are two weeks each summer when that area is full of dragonflies and it's magical. I know the subject may seem a bit cruel but the real subject is the beauty of nature, in all of its forms. I started sketching the dragonfly with a small brush and then added the spider web background to complete the composition. Then I just played with colors and textures. It took longer to complete then my other watercolor paintings, because of all the hues and details, but I'd say it was worth it."

Sweet September Saturdays by Artist/Designer/Photographer Glenna Normyle

Thank you very much for inviting me to write about ACEO's and ETSY. As we pass from one season to another you can really feel it and certainly see it. This new season Fall 2009 is just starting for us here in New England. Cooler nights herald the beginning of the Fall season for us. I am also very much swayed in my creativity at this point. I have been creating ACEO's with Fall, back to school, owl, bird and Christmas themes. Some ideas for ACEO's come to me and they are so simple in design. This Hoot Owl Aceo I made was simple to make and fun. A few months ago I had ordered a package of various iron on items, beautful embellishments etc...from a fellow Etsian. When I received my order I took one look at this owl and I said to myself, very cute, unique I really would like to preserve it on aceo cardstock to share with someone else. Enjoy!
