"The Letter J"

This has been a good day, I finished "The Letter J"!  I find this "Zentangle" doodling quite addictive, it's a bit like putting together a puzzle; you begin with lines going every which way, going up and down, side to side and round and round.  Then you pick a blank space, begin filling it in with a design that comes to mind and see where your imagination will take you from there.  In this case, it took me to ....

"The Letter J"

Later today, I will be listing "The Letter J" in My Etsy Shop as an authorized art print, size 8"x10"; and in ACEO Open Edition format, size 2.5"x3.5".

Until then, I have tossed the remaining letters of the alphabet (Scrabble tiles) and found my next project.  Which letter could that be?  Take a Guesss?

Your friend,

"The Letter C"

"The Letter C" is now complete!  All the while I was working on it I kept thinking of cotton candy, so when it came to painting the background I tried to make it look like pink cotton candy with sugar flecks.   I think it came out rather well.

I will be listing "The Letter C" in My Etsy Shop as an authorized art print, size 8"x 10"; as well as reduced ACEO open edition format size of 2.5"x 3.5".

I have decided to randomly select the remaining twenty-two letters, so in the future I will be surprising you with "Which letter is she working on now?"!

For now, I am pleased to present ....

"The Letter C"

Happy Day to one and all!

Halloween Is Coming!

I have been getting into the Halloween mode lately with my ACEO's and it has been great fun!

It all started when I participated in the ACEO Etsy Street Team Swap, subject: Halloween! I started out making 2 of the Pumpkin, one for the swap and one for Etsy.

Then I thought a ghost would be fun...and it was! Cutting out the eyes wasn't the most fun though, especially the little ghost!!

Click here....'Scary Skull' ACEO Original in my Etsy Shop
Then onto a bit of a scary skull, kind of the 'Day of the Dead' type skull. Halloween is always lots of fun to create from and I look forward to the many ideas still 'lurking' to be created.

An Idea For A New Series Of Drawings....

As I was viewing my latest drawing "Jury Room Doodle" I was struck by how much it reminded me of the letter "B".  I thought, hmmmm, this might be fun, doodling my way through the alphabet.  So I began with the letter "Z", not a very often used letter and thought I'd see where "Z" would take me.  As it turns out, I am very pleased with the final outcome of "Z".   I will be listing "The Letter Z" in My Etsy Shop in 8"x 10" art print format as well as the reduced ACEO format of 2.5"x 3.5".

Hopefully, within the next few days, I will have completed the letter "A" and be able to share that with all of you.  In the meantime, it is my pleasure to present to you .....

"The Letter Z"

Thank you for looking, I appreciate any and all feedback you may care to share ...
Sincerely,
Karen Anne

Approaching Autumn

I keep seeing fallen leaves on my front walk, reminding me that Autumn is on its way! Fall is my favorite time of year - I can't wait for the golden light and the cooler nights, crisp air, smell of leaves and beautiful foliage. Here is my third ACEO with a fall theme, inspired by the leaves on my walk:

Inspired By ACEO

I just love ACEOs because no matter how busy life is, you can always find time in the midst of our day to work on these little pieces, to try a new technique or inspire us into something bigger. Well, this is what happened for me. This is the 2-layer technique I spoke about here. First, I finished this ACEO....

(c) Lorrie Bennett 2010 'Leaf 1'
then I finished this ACEO....

(c) Lorrie Bennett 2010 'Flower 1'
which in turn inspired me to do this piece....
(c) Lorrie Bennett 2010 'Morning Song'
It's an 8x10 so I plan on taking this and reformatting it for an open edition ACEO print, perhaps with a quote at the bottom. Haven't finished that part yet but will be in my Etsy Shop soon. I just love ACEO's and all their little...ur...big potentials!

"Infinity Flies"

I have had dragon flies on my mind and decided to put them down on paper, the result is my latest illustration which I have titled "Infinity Flies".  The original illustration is 8.5" x 11".  I have digitally reduced it so that I can offer it as an Open Edition ACEO.  I will be posting this in my Etsy Shop shortly.

Hope you are all having a wonderful day!

Artist Trading Cards hit the Mainstream in Dick Blick's 2010-2011 Studio Catalog

Artist Trading Cards, or ATC for short, is the brainchild of Zurich artist M.Vänçi Stirnemann who originated the concept in 1996 and created the first trading party in 1997 in Switzerland. Originally intended to be traded by artist to artist in person, this mini art form has morphed into a world-wide phenomenon with beaucoup variations and ameliorations. On Etsy.com, the handmade marketplace online, they are often referred to as ACEOs ("Art Cards, Editions and Originals") because they are primarily for sale rather than traded artist to artist. Plus, they include prints rather than being all original, handmade works of art.

I have my own collection going on and prefer to buy only originals. However, I have mistakenly purchased prints from time to time. Click here for an interesting discussion of originals vs. copies by two creators of ATCs. I create and sell my own as well, but, sadly, I haven't yet found any artists willing to trade them with me. I love the idea of artists trading little miniature paintings with each other. Many of the artists on Etsy, including myself, who create ACEOs belong to a group called the "ACEO Etsy Street Team." Browse this wonderful blog for links to many miniature works of art.

I was pleased to find a two-page spread in the 2010-2011 Dick Blick Studio catalog featuring ATC supplies for artists. Log onto www.dickblick.com or call them at 800-828-4548 for your very own copy of this BIG catalog of art supplies. Happy Creating!!!
