Fanciful Doodle

I got back from a trip to the coast and after recovering from salt air and sun decided to sit down in front of the TV and see where my pen would take me. It was just supposed to be nothing much but once I had finished I thought it was kind of fun and decided to share it.  The original drawing was done on a size 7" X 10" sheet of paper in my sketch pad, I have digitally reduced it to make it available as an open edition ACEO art print as well.

Thinking Fall

The coolness of the last few days have me thinking about fall! Autumn in New England is my favorite time of year. I couldn't resist painting an ACEO with an autumn theme:

August SWAP - Mermaids

I have been waiting to be able to post this for about a week or so now, and finally, I get to! The August SWAP recently took place and the subject matter for the swap was Mermaids. I had just joined the group and thought, what the heck, I'm gonna jump right in and join in on the swap! Really glad I did. It was great fun! My first ACEO (ATC) swap actually.

This is the mermaid that I did and swapped out, which was done with pen and india ink and watercolors. I knew I was on the right track when my 5 year old, Nathaniel, came to my drawing table and said "Wow Mom...that Mermaid painting is really good". When your kids like what you do...nothing else matters! LOL.

Black-Eyed Susan

Back from a two week camping trip...sure am happy to be back to electricity and flush toilets!

Anyways, I made a few ACEOs while I was gone. There were lots of wild flowers in the woods and black-eyed susans are one of my favorites. Here is the first ACEO from my trip:
It is acrylic on watercolor paper. There are more ACEO paintings listed in my shop here.

2 Layered ACEO's

I have had such a blast with these new ACEO's. Each ACEO is actually 2 paintings each, where one painting is cut out and mounted onto the other. I have really enjoyed these and there are many more in the making.

Zentangles

(c) Melanie Pruitt 2010 "Peacock"

I've recently discovered a type of drawing/doodle called "Zentangle" or "Zendoodle". Whatever you call it, it's quite relaxing and fun!

I've chosen to do mine over a background of watercolor which is less traditional, but it fits "me". Then, you do a basic single line that travels all around. From there, the doodle begins to take on a life of it's own!

My first one reminded me an abstract Peacock so that's what I titled it.

(c) Melanie Pruitt 2010 "Fish"

This second one had the look of a fish - and I even added an eye shape, so I titled it "Fish".

These are quickly becoming one of my favorite types of ACEO's to create!

The are both available in my shop The Creators Palette

"The Merry Monarch"

This morning I awoke thinking of butterflies, Monarch butterflies to be precise.  Then an idea came to me, why not combine 2 ovals and a butterfly to create a unique design?!  Thus was born "The Merry Monarch"!

What a great day to be alive!

Original Rabbit Pen and Ink

This ACEO is an original pen and ink created on light pink handmade textured paper and is also embellished with artist colored pencils.  It has a lovely natural and earthy feel to it.  The paper has flower petals embedded into it.  It may be found in my shop  WindandHoney Creations.
