It's an 8x10 so I plan on taking this and reformatting it for an open edition ACEO print, perhaps with a quote at the bottom. Haven't finished that part yet but will be in my Etsy Shop soon. I just love ACEO's and all their little...ur...big potentials!

The wonder of swaps!

Although I belong to this wonderful group I also take part in another group that some of you may know. It is called Boomers and Beyond or BBEST for short!

Last month the BBEST team had an ACEO challenge with the theme set as ‘Spring’. Members were invited to contribute an ACEO in any medium to swap with others. There was a great response and many who had never tried creating an ACEO had a go, and really enjoyed themselves in the process!

For my part I entered the challenge with two, one in my PQ personality and one in my OAW persona.

My PQ ACEO was created using coloured felt pieces, vintage buttons, beads and a signature butterfly. With a bright sun to cheer the viewer on their way I wanted to achieve a bright, springy feel to this one!

The ACEO created under my OAW banner was created in the encaustic medium or painting in wax. Using my trusty travel iron and hot stylus for detail I imagined this stream running through some rocky crags with plants rearing their heads gingerly as Spring approached.

I suppose it was a sneaky way to secure a swap for 2 great ACEO’s. Let me show you what wonderful ACEOs I got in return!

Firstly from Hemlock Hollow came this beauty. She even used rocks (pebbles!) from her creek. Very pretty!

I think this was a ‘first’ and hopefully, not the last.

Meanwhile, the other ACEO I was lucky enough to receive came from Make Your Presents Felt and brought a cheery smile to the day. What a cheerful chappy!

Personally, I thought it was a wonderful way to introduce ACEOs to creators new to this format. To some ACEOs can be very daunting; to have to work in such a small piece of art can be challenging when you are not used to it. However, these two folk had never attempted this before and there were many who have realised what a fun and interesting size it is to work on!

A trading card folder/book filled with ACEOs makes a great coffee table book!Or they can be matted and framed for beautiful miniature art! I personally would like to collect enough to cover a coffee table and then purchase a fitted glass to play on top.

This original collectable bird ACEO/ mini painting is created with professional acrylic on an acid free Strathmore 246 lb weight and sealed with a light coat of clear acrylic protective gloss.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating this piece!

What's For Dinner?

Hi! This is my first post, and I'm very excited to be joining the group! I've been painting ACEOs for a couple of years. My favorite media is watercolor. My favorite subject is cats, but I also paint dragons and other fantasy critters, fantasy landscapes, and the occasional still life. SnowFlake Fantasy

I am new to the group (hi!), so I thought I would introduce myself with my latest ACEO.



This card was inspired by the FAE (Fantasy Artists of Etsy) Street Team's Snowflake Fantasy contest. You can see some of the other entries here.

This is MY fantasy. Small dragonlings carefully guide each snowflake to its designated spot in the sky so that it will fall "just so" and at exactly the right time. This ACEO is my own interpretation of the magic in the ordinary.

When I have a printing session I like to print on every scrap of paper I have. Normally I use these small scraps of printed art for my one of a kind magnets, buttons and mirrors. But I just happened to have one piece of my lovely Japanese mulberry paper torn the exact size of an ACEO/ ATC so when I printed on that I knew it couldn't be turned into any sort of product! The beauty of this piece with its fuzzy hand torn edges and delicate paper is also the problem with it. It isn't much of a card in the literal sense is it? But the only rule with art cards is the size. I couldn't bear to ruin it by mounting it to a card so I needed to come up with a better solution.

That is when I remembered that awhile ago I did an ATC swap with the wonderful Jennifer Gordon (aka stilettoheights) and that the card she sent me came in an impressive thick plastic display case. A case that she was able to provide since she owned a comic book store at the time. Well, I hadn't needed the case for my method of display so I took her card out, but I of course kept the case. This case turned out to be the perfect solution for my special art card but I was missing one of the screws! Oh no! Looking at hardware stores was not helping as I could not find any the right size. Being the nice girl that she is she kindly sent me some screws and now I am able to present you all with this well packaged ready to display ACEO! I'm quite happy with it. It currently happens to be the only ginkgo leaf image that I have in art card form.

I took a bit of a hiatus from making ACEOs/ ATCs. Especially from carving new blocks for them. They have always been a side project for me. After a bit of an artistic drought I decided it was a good time to get out some of my small blocks and do some quick carvings to reinvigorate myself artistically! It has worked in the past and it worked now. Pictured here is a collection of some of my favorites. Some are available, some are not. Some aren't even listed yet!

Starting with these cards I found the inspiration and motivation to work past the pain and tiredness of pregnancy and now I have so many new cards that I just can't list them fast enough. And new larger work too.

You know, I wasn't really getting the whole art card thing at first. Even when I first started making them. I understood why I made them because they were a low commitment way to experiment with shapes and colors where if I messed up and ended up with junk it wasn't a big deal. But now I get them completely. Starting with a simple trade prior to even joining Etsy with a Livejournal contact of my very first art cards I now am building up a collection of my own that I am quite proud of and have in a rather informal display display in my studio. And I find myself wanting to hound Etsy sellers that don't offer them to make them. Having a full sized piece from an artist makes me want an ATC from them as well even more!

I am excited about this team and team blog because I am now fully on board with this fabulous format of art!
