ACEO Open Edition - "Clam - NW Coast Style Design"

This is a design I came up with a while back and finally decided to share it in ACEO Open Edition Form.

The meaning of this design:

The shell, as a whole, symbolizes the body of the entire family and a celebration of life.  The white panels express the different branchs of the family - each separate but each a part of the whole.

The black border flowing around the shell and each panel implies the never ending cycle of life that binds the family as one.  It further denotes the different paths each takes, whether as an individual or as a group, in life’s journey.  The paths fork but eventually come together as one.

The eyes are indicative of all family members watching over each other.  Helping hands are all around to lend support and love.  Oars (paddles) represent guidance from elders to young in hopes the youth will steer toward successful and happy life paths.

The Clam designs on either side of the shell represent elders in the family who share their knowledge and skills with gentle words and caring love.  The solid circles are symbolic of the “pearls” of wisdom passed down to each new generation

It is currently for sale in My Etsy Shop.

Work In Progress: Flowers ACEO

Well this is one of my first attempts at a work in progress! lol I hope to do a few more work in progress posts in the future that will be better than this. My pictures are horrible because the lighting in my room is horrible. I will have to keep that in mind for next time, maybe bring it somewhere else for the pictures.

I started with a 140 lb Strathmore cold press watercolor paper. Cut a bit bigger than needed.

I then added some peach and black watercolor mixed with water and dabbed it off with a kleenex.

Then some red and dabbed off and some black and dabbed off.

Added some green, used a small cotton like pad to dab it off.

And some more red, used a small cotton like pad to dab it off.

Then I added some simple flower parts, I didn't add water to this paint so that it would show up a bit darker.

Then I cut it to ACEO size. 3.5 x 2.5 inches. And I had a watercolor ACEO set aside that I had splattered paint on all over, I used my flower face punch to make the flowers. And used brads with silver to attach the flowers. I used my exacto knife to cut a small slit in the flowers and then also on the ACEO.

This is the back, notice the mess, I was having fun and didn't notice the back. See how the brads get attached.

Here is the final ACEO, the colors are not exact. I have entered this one in the June 2010 "7 Card Draw" prize pool on Etsy. If you haven't heard of the "7 Card Draw" yet, you can visit this months thread here. The listing for the ACEO is here.

New ACEO Original - "Teri Rae"

I began this ACEO with no particular idea in mind.  I just started drawing, painting and coloring.  Once I was finished, I realized it looked like one of my little sisters, when she was a young little girl ... so I titled it "Teri Rae", after her!  Presenting to you - "Teri Rae"!

Take care all!

Three Hood Monks

I made this set of three (being individually sold in my Etsy Shop) hooded monks awhile back.  In my blog, IrelandBrady - Musings To Ponder, I even have a post detailing how I make an original ACEO featuring Hooded Monk #2.  You are invited to pop on over and see what you think about my short tutorial.

I just thoroughly enjoy making these little miniature works of art!

Addicted to ACEOs

My fist post in ACETSY blog yaay!
I currently have the minimum 5 listed in my Etsy shop, come and see HERE

Also I have some past work to share, I will list them soon:

The great advantage of Etsy is the long time they are listed online, and after keeping some of mine for months and some of the years, I can tell you, the benefit of using quality paper and paint is that they look like I painted them yesterday.

I made a series of ACEO with water-mix oils on canvas, and I never listed them because I couldn't decide if I wanted to trim them to card size, or leave them with the edge I tape them to paint them, in case the buyer wanted to frame them. I guess I can put that in the listing, so they can decide what they want. I personally like them both ways.
What do you think?

Waiting for a Biscuit

"Waiting for a Biscuit"
Graphite on Bristol Smooth Paper

International Drawing Day was Last weekend. I missed it last year because I was lazy. So, this year, I sent the invite to all of my Facebook friends and committed to do at least one drawing!

Their goal is cool and simple. 1 million drawings in one day! Neat, huh? Anyway, at the late hour of 11:38, I got around to finishing this little aceo of an Irish Setter.

Hope you like him!
Get in on the fun next year! Drawingday.org

Have a great day!

Pink Dogwood ACEO

I love the season of dogwood trees blooming! We have gorgeous wild whites, and all around the gardens, and as you walk the streets you see pinks ranging from white pink to deep salmon. I took a walk around the block to take reference pictures and painting this little painting.

An ACEO is always 2.5"x3.5" . This is painted with artist quality watercolor (including some wonderful granulating colors) on artist quality 140lb cold press paper. It's for sale here in my etsy shop - come on by and take a look around at TheCreatorsPalette

Don't be Ridiculous!

"Fat & Happy"
Colored pencil on Bristol Smooth

I have often felt that I would never be taken seriously if I created only cartoon-ish-y art. In fact, that has been true, as I have been rejected at times as a serious artist. I have even canceled listings because when I looked back, I felt it just wasn't good enough. But, there is plenty of "serious" art that doesn't make me feel good, so what good is it after all?

Eh, who cares anymore?!!! I think the goal here is to do what makes you happy, and what you seem to be good at performing. I'm still not sure what I am best at performing, but I'm turning a new leaf and I am no longer going to pout that I haven't really painted a still life since college, (and I'm not upset about it.)

Also, I've been afraid to say I would begin my painting a day challenge just because I know I'd be bound to miss some days. Screw that charade as well!

So, to start small, I will create an aceo a day! Maybe I'll work up to the oswoa size for the Daily Painter's site! I will post some and throw in some more Rhinos and history lessons! yay! I hope you will follow my blog for a little fun now and then!

It's a Purple Pony!

I need a little sign that says "Make Hay While the Sun Shines" because then it would remind me to do more productive things when our wacky weather is behaving nicely! For instance, I should have taken a photo of this ACEO outdoors on Saturday when I had the chance.

I drew it a few weeks ago at an artist trading card get together graciously hosted by Studio Todorovic at Art Central. Originally it was going to be one horse, but I didn't have an eraser, so I thought I would just go ahead and make it two horses in tandem. I used Copic markers for whole card. This line of markers is just wonderful to use, unlike Prismacolors. The nibs are replaceable and they have no odour.

The original card is for sale on Etsy - I do believe it's the first new thing I have listed in a long time!
